FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our Percent Difference Calculator, including calculation accuracy, privacy, and embedding options.

Calculation Accuracy

1. How accurate is the Percent Difference Calculator?

Our calculator uses the standard percent difference formula:

Percent Difference = (|A − B| ÷ ((A + B) ÷ 2)) × 100

The result is displayed to two decimal places. Accuracy also depends on the values entered and whether percent difference is the appropriate method for the comparison.

2. What formula does the calculator use?

The calculator finds the absolute difference between two values, divides it by their average, and multiplies the result by 100.

This approach compares both values equally rather than treating one as the original value.

3. Why does the order of the two numbers not matter?

The formula uses the absolute difference between the two numbers. Therefore, switching the first and second values does not change the result.

For example, comparing 100 with 120 produces the same percent difference as comparing 120 with 100.

4. How many decimal places does the calculator display?

Our calculator displays results rounded to two decimal places. The underlying calculation may contain additional decimal digits, so a manually calculated result may show slightly more precision.

5. Can I calculate percent difference when both values are zero?

The standard percent difference formula cannot produce a defined result when the average of the two values is zero because division by zero is undefined.

A zero result should not be interpreted as a valid percentage in this situation.

6. Is percent difference the same as percent change?

No. Percent difference compares two values using their average as the reference. Percent change measures an increase or decrease relative to an original value.

Use percent difference when neither value is the starting point. Use percent change when comparing a new value with an original value.

Privacy and Data

7. Are the numbers I enter stored on your website?

The calculator is designed to process entered values in your browser. Calculation inputs are not transmitted to our server for mathematical processing.

Our website may use necessary browser storage for website preferences. For further information, please read our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.

8. Do I need to create an account to use the calculator?

No account is required to use the Percent Difference Calculator. You can enter two values and calculate their percentage difference without creating a user profile.

9. Does the calculator collect personal information?

The calculator does not require personal information to perform a percentage calculation. However, website infrastructure and any enabled third-party services may process limited technical information according to their respective policies.

Please review our Privacy Policy for details about website data handling.

Embedding the Calculator

10. Can I embed the Percent Difference Calculator on my website?

Embedding availability depends on whether an official embed option and code have been provided. Please use the official instructions on our Embed This Calculator page when available.

11. Can I copy the calculator code and publish it on another website?

Please do not copy or redistribute our website’s source code, design, or calculator implementation without permission. Use an official embed option if one is provided.

12. Will an embedded calculator produce the same results?

An officially supported embedded version should use the same documented calculation formula and rounding rules as the main calculator. Results should be checked against the published calculation method.
